The new electronic ID 4.0 began to be issued in June and since August it is already available in all documentation units in Spain.
This new version of the National Identity Document comes with reinforced security and will be mandatory for the entire European Union.The previous IDs will be replaced as they are expired: the deadline for their renewal will be on August 3, two031.
The new design incorporates the flag of the European Union together with the flag and name of the issuing country.Another novelty is the indication of the type of document in Spanish and in English.Also the photo of the individual is larger than the previous.

In addition, in this new version of the electronic ID, less visible aspects have been incorporated, which reinforce the safety of the new document.This happens with the visible inks in ultraviolet light, the presence of microtexts, biometric identification data (facial image and two fingerprints) that are stored in the microchip of the document itself in digital format for a correct identification.
The data associated with electronic services, such as the electronic signature, are also stored in the microchip, but separately.Both can be read through NFC technology (no contact).Children under six have no obligation to facilitate fingerprints.
