Recognizing indigenous communities is one of the obligations of governments at different levels, indicated the mayor of Zitácuaro, Toño Ixtláhuac.
During his participation in the signing of the Indigenous Consultation Protocol, the mayor mentioned that the right to freedom and autonomy of the original communities is supported by the Law, therefore, the Government of Solutions does not will oppose recognizing the determination of indigenous peoples, as long as it adheres to the law.
Toño Ixtláhuac indicated that the authorities must define those indigenous communities that meet the criteria, to be considered native peoples, and that comply with the guidelines of Mexican legislation.
In the case of Zitácuaro, he recalled the disagreement of some residents of Crescencio Morales, who demonstrated against self-government.
In this sense, he called on the state authorities to create a governance protocol, to attend to the population in disagreement with autonomy, since "the municipal authorities cannot have a position in favor or against."
