MADRID, Oct. 20 (EUROPA PRESS) -
El Corte Inglés will turn off the lights and screens on its facades on the occasion of World Energy Saving Day this Thursday, October 21, with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of not wasting natural resources.
According to the company, the action will take place from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. in all the centers of the Spanish geography, and will be accompanied by a series of videos and editorial content both on its website and on social networks, to raise awareness of how important is to save energy.
In addition, for four days, El Corte Ingles launches, under the slogan 'It's time. Save energy and live better', a series of discounts on products from departments such as electronics and appliances, sports, home and accessories that benefit from energy savings.
On the other hand, the company has highlighted its achievement in reducing its electricity consumption, almost 25% in five years. In 2020, the decrease was 10.7% compared to 2019, due, in part, to restrictions on hours and commercial activity. This decrease means a saving of more than 141,538,632 kWh, equivalent to the consumption of some 43,000 homes in one year.
Along these lines, El Corte Inglés has increased its commitment to environmental transparency in 2020, reporting for the first time on its impact on climate matters through the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP, a non-profit organization that runs the leading environmental disclosure platform in the world.
Finally, the company has highlighted its progress in the process of implementing new recharging points for electric vehicles in shopping centres, which currently has more than 200 recharging points in its establishments, which are equivalent to a free transfer to its customers of 327,608kWh.
